Graduate Student Essay Contest

The entire conference will be held at the Hilton San Diego, Gaslamp Quarter
(not to be confused with the other, high-rise Hilton nearby),
in downtown San Diego - not on the SDSU campus

Discounted conference hotel guest room rate:

$129/night for single occupancy

$149/night for double occupancy

Travel and accommodations are the responsibility of individual conference delegates. There is a multitude of hotels and motels in the downtown San Diego area, including the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown where our conference hotel is located. You are, of course, welcome to explore various accommodations options on line, on your own. If you make reservations outside of the Gaslamp Quarter, please be sure that you will have suitable transportation available to you, since the San Diego Trolley serves only a limited area.

If you would like to stay at the conference hotel, the Hilton San Diego, Gaslamp Quarter, and take advantage of the drastically discounted guest room rates that we have been able to negotiate, you must arrange this yourself, directly through the hotel. It is very important that you make your hotel reservations as soon as possible, since the discounted rooms that we are holding will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. As is the case with most hotels in the U.S., reservations may be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance, without a penalty. We have provided a link to the hotel Web site here, where you will find a customized reservations page for our conference, which enables you to register on line, rather than calling the hotel. The telephone number of the hotel is also available by following this link, should you have additional questions or need more information. Any questions about lodging should be directed to the hotel staff, since the conference organizers are not able to oversee this aspect of the conference directly.

We have been able to secure a drastically discounted guest room rate for conference delegates of $129 per night for a single occupancy, en-suite room (with either one king-sized bed or two double-sized beds) and $149 per night for a double occupancy, en-suite room (with either one king-sized bed or two double-sized beds). If you wish to extend your hotel stay before and/or after the days of the conference, the hotel will honor the same discounted rate for those extended days, from the night of July 5th through the night of July 12th. However, this is subject to availability. It is therefore imperative that you make your reservations soon, while rooms are still available. San Diego is an extremely popular destination in July, given how pleasant the weather generally is at that time of year, and rooms could potentially fill up with people who are not involved with the conference.
